This is a bit of a labour of love, I came up with the idea of doing an EPIC shoot with Mia after seeing a cute collage of another photographers child, he was a lot older and the shoot was based in expressions. I was also inspired by one of my lovely clients Alphabet walls earlier this year and wanted to do my own spin on it, then the cute blog Pretty Little Baby did a feature on alphabet walls and I knew it was about time I put this personal project into action…
I came up with the idea of Mia holding wooden letters (which I can then use for baby shoots – which is how I justfied the huge expense to my husband) against several of my patterned backdrops to spell out the whole alphabet. Easy.
Hmm yes buying 26 letters was easy, picking out the backdrops took a bit longer but I found lots I could choose from… working with a one year old who despite loving the camera wasn’t quite so easy. Getting her to pose with every single letter in one sitting… No chance. Two sittings, I dont think so… in fact it took FIVE sittings to get her to pose with all 26 letters but it was a lot of fun. Mia mainly tried to crawl off, grab my camera, but we bribed her with toys off camera and in the end this is what I created. I LOVE IT. I am part of a lovely community of photographers who constantly encourage personal work and my alphabet wall couldn’t be more personal to me!
Once I can persuade Ian to get the hammer and nails out 26 little box frames will be appearing in Mia’s room very soon! But in the meantime Ive created a beautiful little album in antique white, after all showing off your photographs and not just posting them on the internet is what I am always encouraging people to do so I am practicing what I preach!
I created baby name photography and with the full alphabet you might not even need to bring your own letters for your own baby name photograph! I would love to do an alphabet shoot with other babies but it might take a few sittings!
